The year has started off with a bang!
NAHU hosted our first virtual Capitol Conference at the end of February and while TAHU member attendance was down, the event was well attended by members from around the State. The three-day conference was packed with insightful and timely information about our industry.
All of the sessions were impactful but some of the highlights were:
Price Transparency Revolution - this sessions focus was on price transparency in healthcare and its impact on our industry today and how to prepare ourselves and our businesses for tomorrow's changes.
Social Determinants of Health: Why Should We Care?
Controlling the Cost of Prescription Drugs
Additionally, we hosted several legislators from around the country including Susan Collins (R-ME) Lisa Blunt Rochester (D, DE), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA). I would be remiss for not mentioning that the keynote on our second day Deepak Chopra. He shared with us some important information the future of wellness. Wellness has become a major focus for all of us and his information provided all of us with some important considerations when we are discussing these initiatives with our clients.
Legislatively, TAHU met with the offices of our State Representatives David Price, and G.K. Butterfield and we also met with Senator's Burr and Tillis. Our focus of these legislative discussions were; COVID-19 relief, market stabilizers to reduce cost and improve individual and employer market risk pools, Medicare for all and public option and changes to Medicare.
If you missed the event, I hope that you will consider joining us next year.
Here in the Triangle we had three popular events for our members. In early February we hosted the NCDOI and asked them to address any changes in legislation that might immediately affect NC agents and brokers and we also discussed Medicare enrollments and what resources the NCDOI has to supports agents. On the 25th we had a statewide speaker provide to our members an overview of what to expect in health care policy during the Biden administration.
We also have a very busy schedule in March. Please be sure to mark the following day/times down on your calendar to join us for the following events:
