Thank you to the NCAHU Executive Board, Committee Chairs and Local Chapter representatives for an exciting two days of strategic planning during the 2019/2020 Leadership Conference and Planning Meeting.
Locally I am excited to begin work with Tina Willenborg - Charlotte, Dennis Starley - Coastal, Debbie Gunn - Triad, Michelle Reynolds - Triangle along with the multi-talented Wes Washel and Andrew Kaiser on setting and achieving NC's 2019/2020 membership goals and strategies. Our efforts will be further enhanced through the expert guidance and creative direction of the Region V Membership team headed up by Dave Sherrill and our very own Carol Matznick.
Looking at the current NCAHU membership levels just under 400 statewide we have much work to do to get back to the days of 1000+ members state wide.
The good news, we have an amazing and exciting opportunity to get the word out to current, past and prospect members!
1. The exciting value added partnerships being cultivated by Adrew Kaiser and Dan Ordorizzi that will provide key resources to more efficiently market and manage NCAHU
2. The countless Professional Development opportunities being spearheaded by Jerod Cohen with the help of our very own David Smith that represent best of class professional development and certifications for our membership
3. The Legislative insight and voice at the State and Federal level helping our members stay informed and guide their own clients proactively thanks to the General Assembly Action Committee (GAAC) headed up by the ever talented Hughes Waren and our IIANC Lobbyist Partner Mr. Joe Stewart
More to come as the membership goals and strategy are finalized and the journey begins for NCAHU and our Local Chapters!
Sincerely,
Chris Ross
2019/2020 NCAHU VP of Membership
Hello Local Chapter Board Members and Local Chapter Membership Chairs,
AS you are out and about and crossing paths with individuals that have something to Give or to Gain from being in the Employee Benefits Industry are you making time to bring up NAHU?
What is your value proposition for them to be a member and what is your next step on getting them engaged at the local level?
I would welcome your comments below about why you are an active NAHU member, why you are engaged at the local, state and national level or why you are not engaged. Your feedback is critical to the future of our organization and the future of our organization is critical to the future of our industry.
What does my membership mean to me?
Legislative Awareness, through the updates I receive at the Local and Federal level in terms that I can understand and that I can explain to my clients, prospects and network circles. NAHU and NCAHU empowers me to add value to my conversations around employee benefit legislative activity that can impact the industry I work in as well as my client's bottom line or personal access to quality and affordable insurance protection and care.
Advocacy, Through my active membership in NAHU, NCAHU and contributions to our lobbying efforts I have a voice where and when it matters most relative to legislative action that has a direct impact on my professional focus or my clients and their employees. If you have not experienced a day on the Hill at Capitol Conference in Washington, DC or a Day at the Capital through NCAHU Symposium in Raleigh you are missing out and are putting your professional future and your clients at risk.
Professional Development, look no further then NAHU to get the professional designations and training necessary to elevate your stature among those in the employee benefits industry. Are you tired of being unable to stabilize your client's health insurance premiums and benefit levels? Maybe it is time for you to invest in expanding your understanding of self-funding. Maybe you have done a little level funding, be cautious as carrier reps and marketing materials only tell you so much. Do yourself and your clients a favor and enroll in the entry level or advanced self-funded health insurance course to learn about protecting your client and your firm when it comes to reporting and compliance specific to self-funded health plans. Election season is coming up, what is your response to someone that asks you about the idea of a "Single Payor" healthcare delivery model? If you are not really sure about what is being proposed and discussed now is the best time to take advantage of what NAHU has to offer in terms of the Single Payor Professional Development certification course that offers the potential for 3 hours of CE credit.
Partnerships, I have developed many professional vendor partnerships through my attendance at Capitol Conference, Annual Convention and NCAHU Symposium. I have also formed professional relationships with individuals I routinely reach out to for collaboration and guidance on unique projects that they have experience with and are graciously willing to assist me through the relationships we formed at a NAHU National, State or Local level event. This aspect of my membership puts money directly on the bottom line of my agency and adds tremendous value to my clients and their employees.
Fun, What happens at NAHU events at the National, State and Local level stays there......... Ha Ha, but on a more serious note what better of a way to be a part of your industry you earn a living in then to collaborate and engage with others in a fun and casual setting. I value the friendships I have made through my NAHU membership and my marriage is better for them to because I can talk shop with my NAHU friends and not bore my spouse to teams.
I welcome the opportunity for your comments about why you are a NAHU active and engaged member and if you are not why?
Sincerely,
Chris Ross - NCAHU VP of Membership
