Medicare "Fluff versus Stuff". Be careful when presenting benefits!

    in Medicare & Individual News

It won't be long before we are able to chat with our clients about which products will best suit their needs for 2022. Because of so much advertising (much of which is misleading!), our clients hear about so many extra benefits that it's easy to lose sight of why we recommended their current product in the first place.

It only stands to reason, that if all MAPD companies are getting roughly the same reimbursement, those that are offering lots of "fluff", like rides to the doctor, generous dental allowances, etc..., that they must take away or dilute some of the core benefits, the main "stuff". If someone gets sick, I mean really has some health issues, which plans will stand behind that person, and which ones cost that person a lot of money to be treated?

Look at the specialist copays, at the max out of pocket, at the cost for an MRI or major test, and evaluate those items with your client. Be sure to check the network for participating doctors and the costs of the medicines, and then make a decision. Also, be sure to document these discussions! Too many times people lose sight of what is really important, and it's easy to be distracted by some "fluff" benefits that may be taking away from the real "stuff" that makes a plan the right choice.
