    June Federal L&L Update

    in Federal L&L Updates

-NAHU submitted comments to federal agencies regarding the implementation of the broker compensation disclosure law that passed at the end of 2020, where we made requests and recommendations to ease any potential burden on agents, brokers, and plan fiduciaries.

    

-NAHU also submitted comments regarding the implementation of the surprise-billing ban that was passed in the same piece of legislation at the end of 2020. In those comments we made several recommendations and requests so that the Administration keeps associated administrative costs low and is as consistent as possible in their rulemaking.

    

-Due to NAHU’s advocacy efforts, Representatives Joe Courtney (D-CT), Glenn Thompson (R-PA), Suzan DelBene (D-WA) and Ron Estes (R-KS) introduced H.R. 3650, a bipartisan bill that would allow observation stays to be counted toward the three-day mandatory inpatient stay for Medicare coverage of a skilled nursing facility. NAHU is calling on all members to contact their federal legislators and urge them to co-sponsor H.R. 3650 through our recently released Operation Shout campaign.

    

-NAHU is conducting a Member Engagement Survey. Every member will have the opportunity to share his or her opinions about some of the key aspects of our work together. After we have received the results, we will use them to start a dialogue about how we can more effectively accomplish our mission and serve our members. The last day to complete the survey is June 18.

    

-The IRS recently released additional guidance regarding the COBRA subsidy provisions included in the recently-enacted American Rescue Plan Act. Have some of your most questions been answered by this guidance? Find out by watching this week’s Compliance Corner webinar here.
